Since the talk on education policy implementation, a language war has begun among political parties. Leaders are claiming that the center is strongly imposing Hindi on the native tongue. Yesterday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin stated that the center is trying to force Hindi through a new education policy (NEP), which will create a new war on language.
Stalin claimed the central government was politicizing education by withholding crucial funds from the state. A few days back, he made it clear that he would refuse to sign the NEP; either center would offer an alternative fund for the state as well.
“If the state could sign the NEP withholding 2000 crore, it would set back 2000 years for Tamil people,” he added.
In a meeting, he stated that the NEP undermined the social justice and rights of the people of Tamil Nadu. It lowered down the dignity of the people. This policy will threaten our children in the coming years. He also emphasized that he is not against any language, but if anyone imposes a language, it will never be acceptable.
In this oral war, a BJP leader also opposing Stalin’s party said, “DMK is a hypocrite over the language. She claimed that this party always does politics on language, while recently they removed a board mentioned with Hindi sentences.
“Nothing is private where Hindi words are written. And languages can be written anywhere on public property. Who are they to erase the Hindi language?” she added.
Soundarajan accused parties in Tamil Nadu of just doing language politics to divert the public from the main issues of development. While DMK leaders also opposed Hindi in schools, they allowed their children to get an education from the CBSE board, where they teach three languages, including Hindi.
Amidst this controversy, DMK leaders protest on the road against stopping teaching three languages in Tamil Nadu. From the very beginning, the DMK has been committed to protecting the Tamil language and resisting any effort to make Hindi dominant in the region.
