Mahakumbh Concludes with the Maha Shivratri Mega Event

Devotees arrived to take a holy dip at the Mahakumbh on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, Prayagraj, Utrrapradesh, on February 26. Today is the final day of this majestic event, which has continued for 44 days, begun in the last month. In this immense gathering since January, more than 60 crore pilgrims visited this place to take Amrit Sna in Triveni Sangam, the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers, while it reached 1.18 crore for today itself.

This Mela started with Amrit Snana on February 13 on the Paush Purnima. There are five other Amrit Snan notified, including Snan on Makar Sankranti on January 14, Mauni Amavasya on January 29, Basant Panchami (February 3), Maghi Purnima (February 12), and finally on Maha Shivaratri. Amrit Snan, associated as a sacred bath considered to be a divine act, usually happens on auspicious days during the Maha Kumbh event when the water is believed to be infused with the nectar of immortality.

Mahakumbh is seen as the long celebration of this century, with the world’s largest gathering. Millions of people, including known faces (Laurene Powell Jobs—Steve Jobs’s wife, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck—Bhutan PM, and Chris Martin—Coldplay singer), happen to appear in Prayagraj across the world. Big personalities from India like Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, Anupam Kher, Akshay Kumar, and others also came to this spot to take the holy dip of the Kumbh.

This Mela occurs every year in a clockwise circle when a celestial alignment is created in planets, and this happens when Jupiter, the Sun, and the Moon coincide. This is a mixture of 12 Kumbh, as it takes place every 12 years. Due to the rarest celestial alignment, this year Maha Kumbh is considered the lifetime opportunity for Hindus to bathe in the Sangam.

To make this event a successful gathering, local authorities and the government have done tremendous work deploying security forces and managing traffic and parking to handle world-record crowds. More than 15000 workers participated to clean and ensure all the arrangements for the devotee. The government has installed AI and cameras to monitor Kumbh areas.
