Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the UK on Saturday, March 1, ahead of the European defense summit set to take place on Sunday. Prior to the summit, Ukrainian President met Sir Keir Starmer (United Kingdom Prime Minister) in 10 Downing Street.
After leaving the White House during a meeting held with Donald Trump on the war going on between Ukraine and Russia, President Zelensky went back to London to attend the summit. Before the conference, he met with Giorgia Meloni (PM of Italy) to discuss security issues.
However, the summit is scheduled to be held on February 2 and aims to secure a lasting and enforced peace in Ukraine. The region has been at war since 2023, with Russia as Putin’s administration attacked Crimea, a region in Ukraine claimed as part of the Russian federation.
Amid the critical situation, NATO members and other American allies commit to support Ukraine behind the scenes. Today, the UK’s spokesperson confirmed the UK’s commitment to support them. “We’ll play our full part in ensuring a just and lasting peace deal on Ukraine’s terms, backed by strong security guarantees,” he added.
