Central Asia has seen large-scale disputes after the 1950s, when the world came out from the colonized era. This was the time when the world stood at two cores, including South and North. The Global South denotes all the decolonized countries, especially situated on the downside of the equator. The Northern World is defined as the states that fall in the upper part of the Himalayan region or equivalent.
From 1945 to 1950, the international regime was set to ensure a global governance to maintain peace and prosperity in realistic liberalism after World War II. The United Nations was established under the rules and collaborative approach of 50 countries. But is it still relevant? It might have different opinions for individuals, but it has failed to ensure peace in several regions around the world.
From the Korean War (1950), the Vietnam War (1955-1975), the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan (1979-1989), the Gulf War (1990-1991), the Iraq invasion (2003), to the ongoing Ukraine war (2022-present), the UN and its regime have often been seen on the backfoot in ensuring and maintaining prosperity in the region where the dispute emerged.
Recently, Ukraine, a region settled in Central Asia near the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, shared a border with Russia and is facing a crisis of war with the Russian Army. Since 2014, the Russia–Ukraine conflict has been escalating, with an explosion in 2023 when Russian forces invaded Ukrainian territory, capturing the Kremlin and other Ukrainian states.
Russian President Putin claimed that Ukraine is an integral part of Russia while there is no right reserved to anyone who is an outsider to give extra security. Ukraine is seeking help from the western world for security guarantees in exchange for providing a mineral and energy deal.
This war is still relevant among these nations. The Ukrainian president, Zeleneskyy, requests several nations to support him in destroying the dictatorial authority of Putin from the region. Two days back, he visited the USA, meeting for the 2nd time with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, White House.
On his visit, Trump greeted Zelenskyy at the White House. But no deal was signed between them. The meeting became a historic uproar inside the White House as Trump wanted Zelenskyy to talk about issues with Russia. In response, he said, “Putin is a killer, and our government never wants to negotiate with them.”
The American president shouted at him, saying, Stupid president, we have given you more than 300 billion dollars, and you don’t have guts without us to be in the war against Russia.” This war can be ended in just two weeks, but Zelenskyy responded to his comments saying, Not a week; it can be done in just 2 days, as Putin said.
In this perception-based fight, Ukraine and Russia are fighting for their own benefits instead of looking at any other possibilities. The US wanted to take a big deal of minerals from Ukraine but failed to get it as Ukraine’s demand was high. According to a source, Ukraine has 5% of total critical raw minerals like lithium, which costs around 11.5 trillion dollars.
The US has no mineral reserves; they want to ensure the best deal with Ukraine, which has failed purely. On the other hand, Russia claims they have a few parts of Ukraine where too many raw minerals are available, while the US can invest money on our land.
Putin confirmed that he will not back away from acquiring part of Ukraine. Ukraine should leave their dream of joining NATO. But Zelenskyy doesn’t trust him.
Trump is a businessman, and he never wants to indulge in the Cold War. To build his empire, he can negotiate at any level. For negotiations, the White House invited Zelenskyy, but the deal ended with shouting.
The globe is more intent about the conclusion of the war. Russia is fighting for supremacy while Ukrainians are fighting for self-respect.
