Pakistan currently holds the chairmanship of the UN Security Council (UNSC) 1988 Sanctions Committee, which oversees sanctions against the Taliban. This comes as Pakistan seeks to improve its ties with the Taliban government, with China acting as a mediator.

Deanmark chairs to 1267 committe
Denmark, India’s strategic partner in Europe, chairs the UN Security Council’s 1267 Al-Qaeda sanctions committee, with Russia and Sierra Leone as its vice chairs.
Algeria will head the 1373 Counter Terror Committee, with Russia, France and Pakistan being vice chairs. Algeria is also heading the 1566 Counter Terror Working Group, with Russia and France being vice chairs.

Experts say that Pakistan will move to set a narrative and use it against India since holding the chair. But due to checks and balances in the UNSC, the veto power of the permanent 5 members with the other 15 non-permanent members will be involved in any procedure, while the support of nine members is required to approve any move.
While India is not part of the UNSC, it has influence through various P5 members and non-permanent members like Denmark to blunt Pakistan’s design as the chair of the 1988 committee or the counter-terror committee.
India to work with Russia, Denmark
Experts believe that India will seek to collaborate with France, Russia, Denmark, and Algeria in order to counter Pakistan’s actions. Pakistan, as a non-permanent member, will also hold a rotating presidency of the UNSC this July. It is anticipated that Pakistan will leverage its tenure to establish an agenda directed against India.
