Strong 4.5 magnitude earthquake strikes national capital

On Monday morning, strong tremors from an earthquake were felt in Delhi NCR and nearby areas like Ghaziabad, Noida and Gurugram. The ground shook for several seconds, creating an atmosphere of panic. Many residents rushed out of their homes in fear. The earthquake, measured at 4.3 on the Richter scale, had its epicenter near Nangloi, Delhi, which is why the tremors were particularly strong in the region.

Notably, in the past, earthquake epicenters affecting Delhi were usually located in other countries or distant regions. This time, with the epicenter in Delhi itself, people are both surprised and concerned. Fortunately, no reports of damage or casualties have emerged.

Several leaders, including the Prime Minister, addressed the situation. In a tweet, the PM Stated:

“Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation”.

According to the National Center for Seismology, earthquake tremors have been recorded around 738 times between January 2024 and December 2024. However, this time, the tremors were felt more intensely. Reports suggest that the shaking extended up to a depth of 5 kilometers. People living in high-rise societies of Noida-Greater Noida came out of the buildings after the earthquake and gathered in an open area.

A passenger awaiting his train at New Delhi railway station described the experience, “I was in the waiting lounge. All rushed out from there. It felt as if some bridge had collapsed.
