US Strikes Back: Trump Announces Reciprocal Tariffs on High-Tariff Nations

US Strikes: Former President Donald Trump started once again insulting India for imposing high tariffs on American goods. Speaking from the Oval Office on Thursday, he announced that reciprocal tariffs would start on April 2 against countries that put their own stiff taxes on American products. “India is a very heavy tariff nation,” said Trump, adding that his new trade policy would serve to be a “big game changer” for the US economy.

He, however, pointed out how other countries, including China and Canada, have been charging the US significantly higher tariffs while the US itself charges little or nothing in return. As for Canada, Trump said they charge us 250 percent for our milk products and other goods.” He said this one-sided trade policy indeed has been rip-offing the American economy right from the start and now they need a fairer system.

For now, Trump says these tariffs are small and temporary, but the new reciprocal tariffs are about to make a big turn on trade relations starting April 2.

” Whatever they charge us-whether the tariff is 150 percent or even 200 percent-we will charge them the same, and no exceptions,” he said in an adamant tone.

Trump laid bare the years of frustration he has endured concerning international trade, saying that many countries have taken their pound of flesh from the United States as far as tariffs are concerned.

“We’ve been ripped off by every country in the world, but not anymore,” he said, making it abundantly clear that he was looking forward to the second day in April as a turning point in his trade policy. This is the second instance in just two days where Trump has spoken about tariffs by India, demonstrating how serious he is about enforcing these new trade measures.
