A massive forest fire broke out in the Nadipar forest area near Dirang town in West Kameng district, close to the Indo-China border in Arunachal Pradesh, on Friday, April 24. The wildfire posed a serious threat to nearby settlements, fueled by strong winds, and consumed several acres of forest land before it was eventually brought under control.

However, the fire has been successfully contained after an hour of relentless efforts, said Dirang MLA Phurpa Tsering.
Forces mobilized against forest fire
As a precautionary measure, local authorities evacuated residents from vulnerable areas. This action was taken in urgency with the support of both civil and security forces. As of now, three police fire tenders and two army water tankers have been deployed to douse the flames.

According to reports, the forest fire broke out on April 24 and was largely brought under control by late evening. However, smaller pockets of flames continued to burn into April 25, requiring continued monitoring and response.

Often people see fire burn in the northeast; a month ago people saw a fire festival in Mizoram. The festival is primarily known as Chapchar Kut, a vibrant spring festival celebrated after the completion of jungle clearing for jhum cultivation. It is a significant cultural event where the Mizo people celebrate with traditional dances, music, and feasting. The festival marks the end of a hard period of work and is a time for community and celebration.
No casualties, fire contained
However, this time the forest fire was too widespread. Authorities confirmed no loss of life or damage to property, a testament to the swift and effective response. The cause of the fire remains unknown, with officials yet to determine whether it was sparked by natural factors, human activity, or other triggers. Investigations are underway to ascertain the origin and prevent future incidents.
