Mamata Banerjee Accuses BJP of Electoral Roll Tampering, Threatens Hunger Strike

Ahead of the 2026 elections, West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee blamed the BJP for tampering with electoral rolls by adding fake voters from Haryana and Gujarat with the alleged involvement of the Election Commission.

“I have evidence that an agency in Bengal is replacing the original voter’s name with the fake ones from Gujarat and Haryana, keeping the ID number the same; this is done directly from Delhi,” she said.

The allegations came while addressing the gathering of the party’s workers meeting at Kolkata. This recalled Aam Aadmi Party’s accusations on BJP ahead of Delhi Assembly polls.

As Bengal’s Assembly polls are scheduled for 2026, Mamata Banerjee said that the BJP won in Maharashtra and Delhi using the same tactics.

While addressing the workers, she instructed the leaders and workers to physically check the electoral rolls. She also claimed that “this is not Delhi or Maharashtra; this is Bengal, and we will defeat BJP and win Bengal again.

She asked EC to take action against the same; else, she will sit on a 26-day hunger strike in front of the EC office.
