BJP Victory in Delhi Assembly, After three Decades

BJP won 48 seats out of 70 in the Delhi assembly election, winning a victory over the two consecutive-term ruling Aam Aadmi Party. AAP holds 22 seats and Congress got nothing. More than 94 lakh voters participated to vote, including 50.42lakh men and 44.08 lakh women with 403 transgender, of which BJP received around 46.6% of the votes, following AAP (43.3%) and Congress with others stuck with only 10%, respectively. In this election, Delhi witnessed a voter turnout of 60.54 percent, a decline of about 2.5 percentage points compared to 2020.

Big faces lose elections. AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, who is the big face for AAP, seeking re-election for the fourth time in the Delhi election, loses the New Delhi seat by around 3000 votes. He has been a stronghold on this seat since the last three elections. Bhartiya Janta Party leader Pravesh Verma won the constituency.

With this tremendous change, Manish Sisodia concedes Jangpura, Satyendra Jain, Somnath Bharti, and other AAP leaders lost their seats in this political fight. Meanwhile, Delhi CM Atishi Marlena has won from the Kalkaji constituency. She defeated the BJP’s known face in Delhi, Ramesh Bidhuri, by a margin of over 2000 votes.

In this update, the central minister slams AAP, saying Delhi is getting relief from disaster. Similarly, Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan asserted, “AAPda is missing in BJP’s tsunami.”. Additionally, Congress is failing to secure a single lead and is staring at the unenviable record of drawing a blank for the third time in a row.

After a 27-year exile, the BJP is set to storm back in Delhi, sweeping out the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after a decade-long term reign. Now, it’s hoping for BJP to bring change in Delhi and stand clean on the people’s mandate. Experts believe that BJP has turned into an arena of this election, claiming the AAP for poisoning Yamuna water.

BJP’s relentless focus on lowering the image of Kejriwal to get in power. They focused on Kejriwal’s lavish bungalow renovation dubbed “Sheesh Mahal,” and corruption allegations swayed public opinion of the AAP. AAP was destroyed in this election, reeling from Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia arrests in corruption cases like the liquor scam, the excise policy case, and others. This would be a shattering crisis for AAP to come again in power. It remains to be seen who will hold the post of Chief Minister after Sushma Swaraj in BJP.
