President rule in Manipur
Former CM of Manipur with Sambit Patra submitted resignation to Governor

Manipur Gets President Rule

The centre has imposed president rule in Manipur amidst the political debate after the stepping down of N. Biren Singh as Chief Minister on February 13. Whereas an ongoing assembly is now suspended, the governor has taken position.

This decision was made by President Murmu after the governor sent a report on the ongoing situation of the state. Manipur, the northeastern state, has witnessed ethnic conflict since May 2023. President Droupadi Murmu issued a proclamation under Article 356 of the Constitution on Thursday (February 13, 2025) after receiving a report from Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.

In this political uncertainty, BJP failed to choose a new face for CM, but state in-charge Sambit Patra continuously met with the party’s leaders to make collaborative approaches. So far, all these situations emerged amid the tension of ethnic violence that has claimed over 250 lives and displaced thousands in this northeastern state.
