Prime Minister Narendra Modi US Visit, Meeting with Trump 

Narendra Modi visited the US for a two-day official tour on February 12 after co-hosting the AI summit in France. He went to the US on an invitation by Trump in the White House. President Trump shared greetings and warmly greeted them. These two leaders praised their strong bond and expressed hope for stronger ties and trade deals.

This was PM Modi’s first meeting with Trump after the US leader assumed office on January 20 this year. “President Donald J. Trump held a productive call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India. The two leaders discussed expanding and deepening cooperation. The leaders discussed plans for Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House, underscoring the strength of the friendship and strategic ties between our nations, the White House says. 

In this meeting, the India-US economic partnership was discussed, focusing on AI (artificial intelligence), bilateral trade, and security in the Oval Office at the White House. The two leaders discussed defence and trade deals, H1B visas, immigration, innovation, and more.

Modi-Trump meet: Trump’s reciprocal tariffs

As President Trump unveiled their roadmap for charging reciprocal tariffs on other countries, including 10% on China and 25% on Canada & Mexico. But it’s on hold after a short discussion between the Canadian and Mexican presidents. Earlier in the day, Trump announced that his administration will soon impose “reciprocal tariffs” on trading partners, opening new fronts in his global trade war. While signing the executive order at the Oval Office, Trump said India has more tariffs than any other country. 

Meeting with Elon Musk on innovation and science

Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Elon Musk in Washington, strengthening space, mobility, and technology, and energy, and exchanged notes on efforts at good governance in India and the US. PM Modi said that he had a very good meeting with Elon Musk. We discussed various issues, including those he is passionate about, such as space, mobility, technology, and innovation,” Mr. Modi said in a post on X.
