Rekha Gupta Sworn in as Delhi Chief Minister

Rekha Gupta from BJP, at 50, becomes the capital’s chief minister after a massive victory in the Delhi legislative election. As a first-time MLA, she contested from the Shalimar Bagh constituency, defeating AAP MLA Bandana Kumari by more than a 29000 margin.

Rekha Gupta took an oath at the iconic legacy of Delhi, at Ramlila Ground on Thursday, February 20, in the presence of Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other top heads of the BJP government.

In this ceremony, Delhi’s lieutenant governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, administered the oath of office to Rekha Gupta and her council of ministers. With a crowd of more than 50000, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister JP Nadda, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also attended this mega event.

Apart from the CM face, six other MLAs from the party, including Pravesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Mahinder Singh Sirsa, Ravindra Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Manoj Kumar Singh, were also sworn in as ministers of this state. Pravesh Verma is being elected as deputy chief minister.

Today’s event marks a significant milestone for BJP in the Delhi legislative election as the party comes into power after 27 years of long waiting. Gupta has been chosen as the fourth CM face after Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi Marlena.

BJP has made a massive victory in the outgoing election, winning two-thirds of the seats in the Delhi assembly election. The party has secured 48 out of 70 seats with a 46% voting percentage, followed by AAP on 22 seats.
