The rescue operation has been in progress at the Srisailam left bank Canal (SLBC) in Telangana to save the eight workers who have been trapped in a tunnel breakdown after a roof collapsed. A team of experts from the construction company is continuously working to bring out all the workers safely outside. Rat miners and scavengers have arrived on site to end the operation successfully.
In the Nagarkurnool district, Telangana, on February 22, after a sudden inflow of water and soil caused a part of the tunnel to cave in. While in the eight workers, of which four are labourers, two company employees, and two international employees were working inside the mining location.
In this rescue operation, the NDRF team with the endoscopic and robotic cameras has been deployed. A minister from Telangana visited the spot and said the mud had piled up in the collapsed portion of the tunnel. He said the team shouted the names of all trapped workers but did not get any response.
“I went up to the end, almost just 50 meters short of the site. When we took photographs, the end was clear, and in almost 30 meters, the area had been piled with mud,” he told PTI.
According to sources, this rescue operation will take around three to four days to reach the workers because of debris. Musk had spread inside the tunnel while the team of expert rat miners, who rescued construction workers in Uttarakhand in 2023, had joined the operation. Other routes are also being explored to reach the accident site by clearing debris.
Despite rescue efforts, all the teams are working spontaneously to connect stuck workers in the tunnel. The teams are trying to debump water and pump oxygen inside the accident area.
